Real CPR Help, live CPR guidance.

A built-in sensor detects whether you're pressing hard enough and fast enough during CPR. It provides Live on-screen guidance for every compression with a colour bar and audio instructions that tell you to "push harder" or "good compressions". This is lifesaving; most bystanders lack training, and effective, high-quality CPR increases survival outcomes.

RapidShock, quick analysis before shock

The AED 3 analyses the heart rhythm in as little as 5 seconds. One of the fastest defibrillators available, minimising CPR pause time to increase survival outcome.

AED 3 Uni-padz, one set of pads for adults and children

The CPR Uni-padz™ electrodes work on both adults and children; there's no need to carry or switch to a separate child electrode set. Easily activate paediatric mode with a dedicated button.

Full-colour display with rescue images

The screen shows step-by-step rescue illustrations alongside clear written and spoken instructions. The high-resolution touchscreen eliminates confusion, and the large colour bar gauge makes it easy to visualise compression depth.

Wi-Fi connectivity for remote management 24/7

Simplify device management by automatically transferring device status and event data to the cloud. Connect to your Wi-Fi network, and the AED 3 will automatically check itself daily and send you an alert if anything needs attention. You also get a free 1 year Plustrac license.

5-year battery and pads, lower maintenance costs

Both the battery and electrode pads last 5 years (from date of manufacture) in standby mode. Fewer replacement costs and fewer maintenance visits.

IP55 rated, built tough

The device offers reliable operation from classrooms to construction sites. Engineered to be durable and built to withstand temperature changes, altitude, vibration and shocks. The device is also drop tested from 1 metre.

ZOLL AED 3 Fully-Automatic VS Semi-Automatic. What is the Difference?

The ZOLL AED 3 Fully Automatic Defibrillator delivers the shock on its own; the rescuer does not press a button. Once the device analyses the heart rhythm and detects a shockable rhythm, it warns bystanders to stand clear and delivers the shock automatically. On the semi-automatic version, the device analyses the rhythm in the same way, but prompts the rescuer to press the shock button themselves at the critical moment.

That is the only functional difference between the two models.

Understanding the hesitation gap, and why it matters

In a cardiac arrest, the rescuer is not operating calmly. Adrenaline is overwhelming, the situation is unfamiliar, and the instinct to freeze is powerful. Research into bystander behaviour consistently identifies what is sometimes called the hesitation gap, the moment between the AED advising a shock and the rescuer actually pressing the button, during which fear of causing harm or uncertainty can introduce a delay.

For organisations where staff have little or no first aid training, or where the rescuer is an unknown member of the public, the fully automatic model removes that moment of decision entirely. The machine takes responsibility for delivering the shock, which for many rescuers is the single biggest psychological barrier in an emergency response.

It is important to be clear, however: fully automatic does not mean fully hands-off. The rescuer still needs to open the cabinet, turn on the device, place the pads on the casualty's bare chest, perform CPR, and follow the device's guidance throughout. What the fully automatic model removes is the need to press the shock button, nothing else. The hardest parts of a rescue response are still entirely in the rescuer's hands.

Our recommendation: If your team has little or no first aid training, if the device will serve an unknown public audience, or if your organisation simply wants to remove every possible barrier to action, choose the fully automatic. If your team is consistently trained and confident, consider the semi-automatic. When in doubt, call us. We assess the environment before we recommend a device.

ZOLL AED 3 WiFi & PLUSTRAC Programme Management, Do you need it?

The ZOLL AED 3 has optional WiFi connectivity that links to ZOLL's PlusTrac AED programme management system. After each automatic self-test, the device reports its status remotely, so you know if anything changes before it becomes a problem. No assumptions, no gaps in your duty of care.

PlusTrac goes beyond basic device monitoring. It provides pad and battery expiration notifications so consumables are never left to expire unnoticed, email reminders for upcoming maintenance actions, and customised on-demand reporting, giving organisations a clear, auditable picture of their AED programme at any time. It is worth noting that PlusTrac is compatible with any brand or type of AED, making it a practical choice for organisations managing a mixed fleet, though it is optimised for the ZOLL AED 3 with WiFi connectivity, where the integration is seamless and fully automated.

In our experience, WiFi and PlusTrac are genuinely useful for multi-site deployments, property developers, local councils, multi-national companies, and organisations managing fleets of AEDs across multiple locations. The fully automatic model is particularly popular in these settings because it delivers a consistent, simplified rescue experience regardless of who picks it up at each site. If you need to know that 20 devices across 10 sites are rescue-ready without physically visiting each one, PlusTrac delivers that.

For a single-device installation, the WiFi functionality is a useful peace-of-mind feature,  particularly the push notifications when a self-test fails, but it is not essential. As your purchase includes a free 12-month PlusTrac licence, we recommend using it from day one. Most customers who try it find the value self-evident.

Frequently Asked Questions - ZOLL AED 3 Fully Automatic Defibrillator

What is a fully automatic defibrillator?

A fully automatic defibrillator is an AED that analyses the heart rhythm and delivers the shock on its own, the rescuer does not need to press a button. Once the pads are attached and the device detects a shockable rhythm, it warns bystanders to stand clear and delivers the shock automatically. The rescuer continues to place the pads and perform CPR throughout the rescue.

Is a fully automatic defibrillator better for untrained users?

Yes, in most cases. A fully automatic defibrillator removes the need to press a shock button, which research identifies as a common point of hesitation for untrained rescuers. For workplaces, public access locations, and community settings where the rescuer may have no prior experience, the fully automatic model reduces barriers to action at the most critical moment.

Does fully automatic mean the rescuer does nothing?

No. The ZOLL AED 3 Fully Automatic still requires the rescuer to open the device, place the pads on the casualty's bare chest, perform CPR, and follow the device's guidance. What the fully automatic model removes is the need to press the shock button, nothing else. The device handles the shock; the rescuer handles everything else.

Does the ZOLL AED 3 Fully Automatic work on children?

Yes. The CPR Uni-padz electrodes are universal, the same pads work on both adults and children. To treat a child, press the child mode button on the device. There is no need to purchase or store a separate set of paediatric pads, unlike some competitor devices.

Do I need WiFi for the ZOLL AED 3 to work?

No. WiFi is entirely optional. The device functions fully without any network connection. WiFi and PlusTrac programme management are most useful for organisations managing multiple devices across several sites.

Does the ZOLL AED 3 need to be registered anywhere?

Yes, we strongly recommend registering your device on The Circuit, the NHS national AED network. This ensures ambulance call handlers can direct bystanders to your defibrillator in an emergency. Registration is free. You can also register your device with ZOLL to extend your 6 year device warranty to 8 years.

Can I use the ZOLL AED 3 Fully Automatic outdoors?

The device carries an IP55 rating, meaning it is protected against dust and low-pressure water jets. It is suitable for indoor and some sheltered outdoor use. For permanent outdoor installation,  particularly for community and public access sites, we recommend housing it in a DefibStore 4000 cabinet with a thermostatically controlled heater to maintain optimal operating conditions year-round.

Do I need training to use the ZOLL AED 3 Fully Automatic?

No formal training is required; the device is designed to guide any bystander, trained or not, and the fully automatic model removes the need to press a shock button. However, we strongly recommend CPR and AED training. The rescuer still needs to place the pads and perform CPR, and training builds the muscle memory and confidence to do both effectively under pressure. DefibStore offers two CPR and AED training courses.
