Key features explained

How long do the pads last?

The pads have an 18-month shelf life. The Use By date is printed on the packet, so check it whenever you check your AED. Replace the pads before that date, and always after they have been used on a patient. Once the packet is opened, do not use the pads after 24 hours, as the gel can dry out. Our free reminder service can tell you when your pads are due. Free AED Pad & Battery Replacement Reminder

What do REDI-PAK and QUIK-COMBO mean?

REDI-PAK is Stryker's preconnect system. The pads are plugged into the AED while still sealed in their packet, so in an emergency the rescuer only needs to open the packet and apply them.

QUIK-COMBO is the connector Stryker uses on LIFEPAK defibrillators and monitors. If an ambulance crew arrives with a LIFEPAK monitor, they can connect it to the same pads, so the pads can stay on the patient.

How do I replace the pads?

  1. Check the new packet. Make sure it is sealed and the Use By date has not passed.
  2. Unplug the old pads. Disconnect the old packet's connector from the AED.
  3. Plug in the new pads. Push the new connector into the AED until it is fully inserted.
  4. Keep the packet sealed. Leave the new pads in their packet, connected to the AED, until they are needed.
  5. Check the readiness display. Confirm the OK symbol appears.

How should the pads be stored?

Store the pads between 15 and 35°C. Temperatures at the higher end of that range shorten their life, and exposure to -30 or 60°C should be limited to seven days. Do not fold, crush or store the pads under heavy objects, and only open the packet when you need to use them.

Why use Stryker pads?

The LIFEPAK 1000 operating instructions warn that electrodes from other manufacturers may cause the AED to perform improperly. Stryker states that only Stryker accessories and disposables have been thoroughly tested with LIFEPAK products. These pads are the Stryker part specified for the LIFEPAK 1000.

Frequently asked questions

Can these pads be used on a child?

Only on children aged 8 or over, or over 25 kg. For a child under 8 or under 25 kg, use LIFEPAK 1000 Infant/Child electrodes, which reduce the shock energy. [ADD LINK] Do not use paediatric QUIK-COMBO electrodes on the LIFEPAK 1000, as they do not reduce the energy it delivers.

Can the pads be reused?

No. The pads are for single patient use. Replace them after every rescue or if they have been out of the sealed packet.

What happens if the pads are past their Use By date?

Do not use them. Out-of-date, dried-out or damaged pads may not stick properly, and Stryker warns they can cause electrical arcing and skin burns during a shock. Replace them with a new pair.

Where do the pads go on the patient?

Each pad shows a picture of where it goes, and the AED's voice prompts guide you. In the standard position, one pad goes on the upper right of the chest and the other on the lower left side, below the armpit. Press each pad firmly so the whole pad sticks to the skin. Please note that pad placement for children below the age of 8 or under 25 kg is different.

Will these pads fit my LIFEPAK 12 or LIFEPAK 500?

These pads are designed for the LIFEPAK 1000 and are also compatible with the LIFEPAK 12 and LIFEPAK 500 (discontinued). If you are not sure which pads your AED needs, call us on 01298 872 186.

Should I replace the pads and battery at the same time?

Not necessarily. The pads have an 18-month shelf life and the battery up to 5 years, so they usually fall due at different times. Check both at every routine check of your AED, and replace each before its date. If you need a battery, see the LIFEPAK 1000 Battery Replacement Kit.
