The Mediana HeartOn A16 is designed for one thing: helping ordinary people save lives during a cardiac emergency. Whether you're a teacher, office manager, gym instructor, or community volunteer, this defibrillator talks you through exactly what to do, step by step, in plain English (or Welsh, or Polish).

Unlike fully automatic models that shock without you pressing anything, the A16 semi-automatic gives you control. The device tells you when a shock is needed, and you press the button when you're ready. It's that straightforward. For many first aiders and trained staff, this extra moment of control makes all the difference when the pressure's on.

  • Pace-pulse detection to filter Pacemaker rhythm
  • Fast Shock Delivery within 10 seconds
  • Multilingual voice prompts guide you through everything
  • Comprehensive Self-testing
  • Voice Recording: Records audio during use, allowing for post-event analysis and quality control.
  • Works for adults and children with a simple switch (no separate pads needed)
  • Checks itself automatically every day, you'll know if there's a problem
  • Built tough for British weather and busy environments (IP55)
  • 5-year warranty as standard
Buying a defibrillator isn’t like buying a fire extinguisher; it’s more important and, understandably, more daunting. You’re probably asking yourself: “Will I actually be able to use it if someone collapses?” “What if I press the wrong button?” “Do we need training?”

What Actually Makes the Mediana A16 Semi-Automatic AED Different?

It Can Guide You in Multiple Languages

The A16 comes pre-loaded with English, Welsh, and Polish. For Welsh schools, community centres, and public buildings, having bilingual instructions isn’t just nice, it’s essential. Press the language button, and you’re sorted.

Analysis to Shock-Ready in 10 Seconds or Less

The A16 completes its heart rhythm analysis and charges to full capacity in just 10 seconds, ensuring minimal interruption to life-saving CPR.

One Set of Pads for Everyone

Most defibrillators need separate children’s pads or a special key for treating kids. The A16 has a simple switch:

  • Adult mode: Delivers the right energy for anyone over 8 years old
  • Child mode: Reduces energy automatically for children under 8

Same pads, different energy. One less thing to worry about when you’re already stressed.

Built for Britain

The A16 has an IP55 rating, which means dust doesn’t get inside, it works in humid changing rooms, and it survives outdoors (in a proper cabinet). It’s also been drop-tested from 75cm on all sides. Because accidents happen, especially in schools and leisure centres.

A16 Does Daily Self-Tests

Every single day, the A16 runs through a series of checks: it checks the battery capacity and the pad connection. If there’s a problem, it tells you immediately with a red light and a warning. You don’t need to remember to check it, though a quick glance weekly takes 30 seconds and gives you peace of mind.

Secure and flexible data storage

Event data can be stored and transferred in three ways:

  • Removable SD card
  • Infrared connection for PC download
  • Internal backup memory

If the SD card is missing or full, the device automatically saves everything internally, so nothing is lost.

Pace-Pulse Detection (Important if You Don’t Know What It Is)

Many people, especially older adults, have pacemakers. These little devices send regular electrical pulses to keep the heart beating steadily.

Here’s something to note: some defibrillators mistake these pulses for a healthy rhythm. The A16’s pace-pulse detection filters out pacemaker signals and analyses the real heart rhythm.

This is particularly important in care homes, hospitals, and public spaces where it is not always clear if someone has a pacemaker.

Mediana A16 AED – Real-World Application

Care Homes

Care homes sit in an interesting position. You’ve got trained staff, but not everyone’s a nurse. The semi-automatic A16 works well because:

  • Easy for care assistants to use
  • Pace-pulse detection for pacemakers
  • * Event recording creates a detailed record for paramedics and families.
  • Adult mode simplicity

Important feature for care settings: The device filters out signals from pacemakers when checking heart rhythm. Many elderly residents have them, and older defibrillators sometimes get confused. The A16 doesn’t.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s “Biphasic” and Why Should You Care?

Older defibrillators (monophasic) sent electricity one way through the heart. They needed huge amounts of power (360 joules) and caused more damage to the heart muscle.

Modern defibrillators like the A16 send electricity both ways (biphasic). This needs less power (170-195 joules for adults), works better, and causes less damage. That means Higher survival rates, less harm to the patient, and longer battery life. It’s simply better technology, and it’s now the standard across the NHS and private sector.

How Do I Know If the Battery Needs Replacing?

  1. LCD status display
  2. Red light and audible warning
  3. Optional reminder service

Do I legally need training to use the Mediana A16 Defibrillator?

Anyone can legally use an AED in the UK in case of a cardiac emergency. However, we do suggest basic training. Not because you need it to operate the device, but because training gives you confidence.

We offer both basic and certificate-level training. Call us on 01298 872186 for more information, our team will be happy to help.

What do I do if an AED fails during an emergency?

The A16 tests itself every single day, power on self-test, battery check, pad connectivity, all of it. If something’s wrong, it tells you immediately with a red light and alarm. But if it somehow did fail:

  1. The device will still provide voice prompts for CPR
  2. Continue CPR until paramedics arrive
  3. Using the device, even if the shock doesn’t deliver, is better than doing nothing.

With daily self-tests, the chances of failure are vanishingly small. That’s precisely why modern AEDs do these checks.
