One Pad Set for Adults and Children: Why It Matters
Many AEDs require you to stock separate paediatric pads, a different product, a different purchase, and a different expiry to track. The Primedic HeartSave myPAD electrode pads eliminate that entirely. The same set works safely on both adults and children, because the HeartSave myPAD defibrillator handles the energy adjustment automatically when the Child button is pressed.
For environments where both adults and children are present, such as schools, sports clubs, community centres, and family businesses, this is a significant practical advantage. You maintain one product, not two. You track one expiry date, not two. And in the panic of a real emergency, your responder reaches for one set of pads, not two different packages.
This dual-use capability and the compact portability of the myPAD are reasons why we consistently recommend Primedic HeartSave myPAD AEDs and their corresponding electrode pads for any setting that cannot afford uncertainty.
The 5-Year Shelf Life: What It Means in Practice
Standard defibrillator pads expire after two years. The Primedic HeartSave myPAD Adult Paediatric electrode pads last up to five years. That is not just a number on a box; it has real-world consequences for your budget and your readiness.
Electrode pad adhesive degrades over time. Once expired, pads cannot make adequate skin contact, and an inadequate contact means an ineffective shock. Replacing pads regularly is not optional; it is essential. With a 5-year shelf life, you are replacing these pads less than half as often as standard pads, reducing your ongoing cost of AED ownership significantly over time.
Our AED-certified team recommends setting a calendar reminder for pad replacement well before the expiry date printed on your packaging. If you purchase your Primedic myPAD pads from us, simply get in touch, and we will help you stay on track with our free pads and battery reminder service.

These electrode pads for Primedic defibrillators are designed exclusively for the HeartSave myPAD range. How to Use the Primedic HeartSave myPAD Electrode Pads
In an emergency, follow these steps:
- Power on the Primedic HeartSave myPAD defibrillator. It will begin providing voice and visual instructions immediately.
- Remove the electrode pads from the foil packaging. The pads are pre-connected; no cable attachment is required.
- Expose the patient's chest. Ensure the skin is clean and dry. Remove any clothing or jewellery in the pad placement areas.
- If treating a child, press the Child button on the device before applying pads. This adjusts the energy output to a safe paediatric level.
- Place the pads as shown in the diagrams printed on each pad (and displayed on the device screen). One pad goes below the right collarbone; the other on the left side of the chest beneath the armpit.
- Stand clear while the AED analyses the heart rhythm. Do not touch the patient during analysis.
- Follow the device instructions. On semi-automatic models, press the shock button when instructed. Fully automatic models will deliver the shock without user input.
- After use, replace the electrode pads immediately. Do not attempt to reuse single-use pads.
Note: These myPAD replacement pads are single-use only. A fresh pair must be fitted before your AED is returned to standby.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are these the right pads for my Primedic defibrillator?
The Primedic HeartSave myPAD electrode pads are compatible exclusively with the HeartSave myPAD range, including semi-automatic and automatic models in both Core and Connect configurations. If you are unsure, check the model name printed on your device or contact our team on 01298 872 186 before ordering.
Do the Primedic Heartsave myPad pads work on children?
Yes. The Primedic HeartSave myPAD Adult Paediatric Electrode Pads are suitable for both adult and paediatric patients. When treating a child, the responder presses the Child button on the defibrillator, which safely reduces the energy output to an appropriate paediatric level. The same set of pads is used for both; no separate paediatric pads are required.
How do I know when to replace the AED pads?
Check the expiry date printed on the foil packaging. These pads have a shelf life of up to 5 years from their manufacture date. We recommend setting a reminder at least 2–3 months before expiry to ensure you have replacement pads before the current ones become ineffective. Pads must also be replaced after every use; they are single-use only.
What happens if I use expired pads?
Expired pads should never be used in an emergency. Over time, the adhesive coating dries out and loses its ability to make proper contact with the patient's skin. Poor contact means the electrical signal cannot be effectively transmitted, which can result in an ineffective shock. Keeping your pads in date is a fundamental part of AED maintenance and emergency readiness.
Can I use these pads without prior training?
Primedic HeartSave myPAD defibrillators are designed for use by untrained bystanders. Voice and visual prompts guide the user through every step. However, prior training in CPR and AED use significantly improves outcomes in a real cardiac arrest. We always recommend that anyone responsible for an AED at their organisation completes formal AED training. Our AED-certified team can advise on appropriate training options. Call 01298 872 186
